PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for Namrup Fertiliser Project, Signalling a New Industrial Era for Assam and the Northeast

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a new ammonia-urea fertiliser project in Namrup, Assam, calling it a landmark step for industrial growth in the Northeast. The project aims to boost employment, support farmers and strengthen regional economic development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a major ammonia-urea fertiliser project in Namrup, Assam, marking a significant step in the region’s industrial transformation and long-term economic growth.

The project, being developed by Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL), is aimed at strengthening domestic fertiliser production while accelerating industrial development across Assam and the wider northeastern region. Addressing the gathering at the foundation-laying ceremony, the Prime Minister described the initiative as the beginning of a new chapter for industry in the Northeast.

Mr. Modi highlighted the rapid changes underway in Assam, pointing to improved infrastructure, the expansion of industrial units, and enhanced connectivity as key drivers of growth. He noted that sustained investment in sectors such as agriculture, tourism and manufacturing has begun to reshape the state’s economic landscape, creating fresh opportunities for development and enterprise.

The Prime Minister said the new fertiliser unit would play a crucial role beyond industrial output alone. According to him, the project is expected to generate employment, boost regional prosperity and support farmers by ensuring better access to essential agricultural inputs. He stressed that such initiatives are central to the government’s broader vision of balanced regional development and economic inclusion.

Expressing confidence in the project’s long-term impact, Mr. Modi said the ammonia-urea plant would energise economic activity across Assam and the Northeast, while opening new avenues for young people and the farming community. He added that the region’s growing industrial base, combined with modern infrastructure and improved connectivity, positions it for sustained growth in the coming years.

The Namrup project is seen as a strategic investment in both industrial capacity and regional self-reliance, reinforcing Assam’s role as an emerging hub for manufacturing and economic activity in eastern India. Its launch underscores the government’s focus on integrating the Northeast more deeply into the national development framework.
